In a move to reinforce its commercial aircraft business, Airbus has named Christian Scherer as the chief executive. Previously, this role fell under the responsibility of group Chief Executive Guillaume Faury. The appointment of Scherer is expected to refocus and enhance the company's efforts in the commercial aircraft sector, especially as airlines continue to place more orders due to increasing passenger demand for air travel.

According to Faury, "Empowering Christian in the Commercial Aircraft CEO role will enable us to reinforce focus on the success of our Commercial Aircraft business while allowing me to dedicate my time to steering Airbus in a complex and fast-evolving global environment."

Aside from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Airbus and the wider aviation industry are also grappling with supply-chain disruptions that are affecting the procurement of certain spare parts and materials necessary for aircraft production.

The new organizational setup, with Christian Scherer as CEO of the commercial aircraft business, will be implemented in the next few months.
