Asia-Pacific stocks displayed mixed performance on Friday, September 29. While Japanese shares experienced a decline for the second consecutive day, Hong Kong stocks weakened.

Hong Kong and Japan Stocks

The Hang Seng Index (HSI) in Hong Kong experienced a decrease of 1.4%, reaching 17,373.03. On the other hand, Japan's Nikkei 225 Index remained flat at 31,857.62.

Other Indices and Closures

Singapore's Straits Times Index (STI) saw a gain of 0.5%, closing at 3,222.93. China's Shanghai Stock Exchange remained closed. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Benchmark Index increased by 0.3% to reach 7,048.60, while South Korea's Korea Exchange was closed as well.

Hang Seng Index Decliners

Among Hang Seng Index constituents in Hong Kong, mobile telecommunications company China Unicom (Hong Kong) (762) experienced the largest decline, with shares sinking by 0.9% on Friday. Electric utilities firm Power Assets Holdings (6) and diversified holding companies company CK Infrastructure Hldgs (1038) also saw a decrease of 0.7% and 0.5% respectively.

Hang Seng Index Gainers

On the other hand, shares of pharmacies/drugstores company Alibaba Hlth Info Tech (241) saw the largest increase in Hong Kong, with shares surging by 10.7%. Shares of pharmacies/drugstores firm JD Health International (6618) and motor vehicle dealing company Zhongsheng Group Holdings (881) added 7.8% and 7.0% respectively.

Nikkei 225 Index Decliners

Among Nikkei 225 Index constituents, marine transport company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (9104) experienced the largest decrease on Friday, with shares falling by 5.3%. Electric power distribution firm Chubu Electric Power (9502) and multiutilities company Kansai Electric Power (9503) also saw declines of 5.1% and 4.8% respectively.

Nikkei 225 Index Gainers

In Japan, digital marketing services company CyberAgent (4751) experienced the largest increase on Friday, with shares rising by 3.0%. Shares of semiconductors firm Advantest Corp (6857) and semiconductors company Tokyo Electron (8035) also rose by 3.0% and 2.6% respectively.
