Eutelsat OneWeb has signed an agreement with Libyan telecoms operator Rawafed Libya for Telecommunications and Technology, enabling the provision of high-speed connectivity across the war-torn country from early next year. This collaboration will leverage Eutelsat OneWeb's constellation of hundreds of satellites.

The Paris-based subsidiary of Eutelsat Communications announced on Wednesday that the multi-million-dollar, multi-year contract aims to facilitate reliable connectivity for industries such as oil and gas, financial services, and humanitarian organizations operating within Libya.

Cyril Dujardin, co-general manager of Eutelsat OneWeb, highlighted the substantial demand for high-speed connectivity in Africa. In November, the company also entered into an agreement covering Sub-Saharan Africa.

Eutelsat OneWeb, established in 2023 after Eutelsat's acquisition of OneWeb for $3.4 billion, possesses a fleet of 37 geostationary satellites and a low Earth orbit constellation comprised of over 600 satellites. Under the agreement with Rawafed Libya, Eutelsat OneWeb will provide exclusive access to its low Earth orbit constellation.

Low Earth orbit refers to Earth-centered orbits with an altitude of 1,200 miles or less, according to NASA.
