Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has expressed the need for a change in the oversight of OpenAI following a series of events involving the sudden removal of the firm's CEO, Sam Altman. In an interview with CNBC on Monday, Nadella stated, "At this point, I think it's very clear that something has to change around the governance... And we'll have a good dialogue with their board on that."

Earlier on Monday, Nadella announced on social media that both Altman and OpenAI's former President Greg Brockman would be joining Microsoft. However, uncertainties remained regarding Altman's transition, as reports indicated that hundreds of OpenAI employees were threatening to quit unless the board responsible for Altman's ousting stepped down.

Emmett Shear, the Interim CEO of OpenAI, revealed plans to initiate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Altman's removal. Additionally, there were reports of ongoing efforts by Altman's allies to reinstate him at OpenAI.

Nadella emphasized that the choice of whether to remain at OpenAI or join Microsoft now lies with the employees themselves, and he is open to both options.

Overall, Microsoft remains committed to OpenAI and Altman, and discussions about governance changes are expected to take place between Microsoft and OpenAI's board.
