Negotiators are on the verge of securing a deal to release hostages currently being held by Hamas in Gaza, according to a U.S. official. Jon Finer, the White House’s deputy national security adviser, stated on Sunday news programs that significant progress has been made in the negotiations. Although he refrained from providing extensive details, Finer mentioned that they are closer to reaching an agreement than ever before. As he put it, "We are closer than we have been perhaps at any point since these negotiations began weeks ago."

Finer further emphasized that while certain areas of disagreement remain, the gap has considerably narrowed, if not entirely closed. American officials are diligently working through negotiators to secure the release of as many hostages as possible, including Americans held captive. Finer stated, "There are a significant number of hostages who could be released if this deal is completed." He also highlighted that a majority of the estimated 240 hostages are believed to be alive.

Despite persistent inquiries about the precise number of hostages that could be freed through the deal, Finer stated he didn't want to jeopardize its completion and refrained from divulging specifics. However, he did confirm that the number of hostages potentially released would be considerably more than 12.

Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S., Michael Herzog, expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations and the possibility of freeing a substantial number of hostages in the coming days. When asked if the release of hostages would be accompanied by a temporary cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas, Herzog confirmed, "We’re talking about a pause in the fighting for a few days so we can get the hostages out."

Rest assured, efforts are underway to resolve this hostage crisis and secure the safe return of those being held captive.
