On the Beach Group, the renowned U.K. online holiday retailer, announced a significant victory in its legal battle against Ryanair. The company secured a summary judgment in its favor, resulting in an impressive monetary award of approximately £2 million ($2.4 million).

This milestone ruling pertains specifically to refunds that On the Beach provided to its customers who had their flights canceled or altered by Ryanair amidst the challenging circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. The High Court of Justice declared that Ryanair was legally obligated to reimburse the funds to On the Beach.

In addition to the substantial monetary award, On the Beach intends to seek compensation for the costs it incurred during this legal process. Furthermore, the company is taking proactive measures to recover cash refunds granted to customers in cases where Ryanair has yet to fulfill its obligation.

Ryanair, while acknowledging the court's decision, emphasized that online travel agencies must demonstrate their fulfillment of flight-refunds to consumers before seeking reimbursement from the airline.

The positive outcome of this court case has resulted in a notable boost for On the Beach's shares, which saw a rise of 2.3% to 96.50 pence at 1312 GMT.
